2009 Mike Carney Toyota Billfish Challenge NOW A 4 DAY EVENT

Due to popular demand and entrant feedback, when also considering these harsh economic times we have decided to this year to change the challenge back to a 4 day event. This, beside hopefully encouraging more interest, also allows teams wishing to fish the Innisfail Club's tournament the following weekend, more time for travel.

The sign on and meet and greet will still be on Friday the 4th, with fishing Sat, Sun, Mon, and Tues. There will be a lay day Wednesday the 9th with the Presentation dinner on the Wednesday night.

Boats will only be required as with last years tournament to return to port on the Sunday and at the conclusion of the tournament on Tuesday night.

The TGFC looks forward to having all past and some new entrants back again this year to enjoy this great event and our Northern hospitality

In 2008 the Gilbert Group NQ Mining Billfish Challenge continued to prove that it is one of the most successful Game Fishing Tournaments on the East Coast Australia with these years event turning out to be the largest ever held in the Tournament’s 26 Year History.

With a over $100,000 worth of Cash & Prizes up for grabs as well as some awesome fishing action experienced in the lead up to the Tournament it wasn’t hard to see why even in very challenging weather conditions over 40 Boats & hundreds of anglers made the trip North to be apart of this Spectacular Fishing event.

The Tournaments the World Renowned Billfish Grounds continued to live up to International Standards with 408 Billfish seen, 318 Hooked & 183 Tagged throughout the 5 Day Event.

Local Boat ‘MOJO’ skippered by well known local Game Fishing Identity Mark Parkes took out the 8m & Under Category with a total of 9 Billfish & Gold Coast Boat ‘GAMETIME’ took out the 8m & Over Category with a total of 16 Billfish.
